Based in San Francisco, California, designer Christine DeGracia blends luxury style with relaxed comfort. We sat down with Chrisine to take a peek into her design approach as the founder of Artistic Home Interiors. With her love for travel and trade shows, she approaches her work with fresh, first-hand knowledge of cutting edge design trends.
How would you describe your signature style?
I tend to be more contemporary and not as structured. I like it be truly liveable and comfortable. That's popular for California, but I just had two similar projects in Florida. That style seems to be well-received over there too. I love to mix textures. Wood, metal, hides, unique wallpaper.
Do you have a favorite color/palette to work with?
Not necessarily. I pay really close attention to what's trending, and try to stay ahead of other designers. I always go to HPMKT, Las Vegas - I keep an eye on it. I think it's really important to be a sponge and to see everything. When you go to trade shows, you get to form a relationship with manufacturers. You get to see how something is made, how it feels, how it actually looks in person. Sometimes people discount how important that is.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
International hotels! I do a lot of traveling and see a lot. I stayed at a fabulous resort with a Moroccan influence that was beautiful. It had gorgeous tile work and textures. You can really learn a lot if you study hotels and hospitality.
