Antoinette French style upholstered headboard and bed frame with Aileen pillows.  Duvet cover and white euro are from the Gianna de Medici Collection.

Sometimes we get to design our dream beds and this would be one of them. Besides the gorgeous headboard, re-introducing ourselves with the Aileen collection seems just right. We drooled a little bit when we put this together. Yes, you’re welcome.

What You Need to Know Before you Buy an Upholstered Bed or Headboard

Much like the fashion industry, the home accent industry experiences trend cycles.  Products come into style, have a certain lifespan, then fade only to resurface years later in an adapted form.  Products currently in this cycle are upholstered beds and headboards.  With the accent more on the fabric and plush look of upholstery, wood and metal beds and headboards have taken a back seat.  This trend is not only noticed in furniture stores, but if you look closely enough while watching television, most bedroom ensembles include an upholstered look.

One show in particular is the AMC television series Mad Men.  Set in the 1960′s, this show depicts the advertising industry while historically displaying fashion and home decorating trends.  The main characters in the series have a very prominent upholstered piece in their bedroom. Traditionally, we know that consumers look to Hollywood for fashion and decorating guidance, thus the current popularity of the upholstered headboard.

Upholstered products are available in a variety of shapes, styles and fabrics.  At Eastern Accents our upholstered line is customizable, with a deep assortment of styles and fabrics to choose from.  Below are 3 main points to look for when considering an upholstered purchase.  We have modeled these guidelines based on our commitment to product quality and comparison to other industry products.

What you need to know:

Mass Production or Made to Order

The quality of the headboard is very important.  We handcraft each upholstered product individually to insure its quality.  Our process allows for detailed scrutinizing of its construction and design, in turn giving our customers a long lasting and beautiful piece of furniture.

The Inside is as Important as the Outside

How is the bed or headboard constructed?  Is it upholstered on just the face, or is it a complete product that is as beautiful on the back as it is on the front?  Eastern Accents constructs quality pieces with a real, solid wood frame, a luxurious amount of padding and a fully finished look of allover upholstery.

Look for Options
You are not limited to purchase a bed or headboard that “everyone” owns.  We offer you the ability to choose your frame style and fabric. You can even take it further by adding details such as contrasting welt colors, tufting and nail heads.

Things You Might Not Know about Eastern Accents Upholstered Furniture

We’ve made upholstered ottomans that coordinate with Eastern Accents bedding ensembles for several years.  And our Lucerne Velvet and Serico Silk headboards have also been available for a few years.  Many of our customers have also taken advantage of our custom workroom to create customized headboards, bed frames, and ottomans.

Over the last year or so, however, we’ve branched out and have tried to respond to customer feedback: we heard from a lot of designers asking for more options. So, we’ve changed a few things (and we’ll be changing more over the next several months) with the older headboards. We’ve also introduced a new system to offer semi-custom options on fabric and details on many of our upholstered furniture pieces.

Here is a short list of four things you might not know about Eastern Accents upholstered furniture:

  • Most of our headboards are now also offered as upholstered beds, which include the headboard and upholstered bed rails. Pricing for all headboards and beds (including those with options) is instantly calculated online as the designer builds the item through a simple series of point and click choices.
  • Milan, Paris, and Vienna upholstered beds and headboards are the same headboard styles we used to sell only as Serico or Lucerne headboards in 3 styles plus optional tufting.  We still offer these styles upholstered in Serico silks and Lucerne velvets, but we now also offer them in Eli twills and Kaboodle plaids. We’ve also created the option (and made it available on the website) for adding a contrasting welt to most of these headboards.
  • Paris Headboard in Kaboodle plaid fabric

  • We have 2 other headboard styles – Arles and Rockwell (limited availability in certain regions) – that allow designers to choose from any one of nearly 400 luxury, upholstery grade fabrics.
  • Through our de’ Medici Italian Fine linen line we offer 2 specialized headboard styles designed to coordinate perfectly with our Italian linen sheeting and top of bed products. These headboards are available in more than 10 color shades from the Navarro fabrics.
  • de Medici Fine Linen Kyler

  • This fall we introduced for the first time upholstered bed benches. Available in 3 styles, one of which is  the Frankfort storage bench, they may be upholstered in the same array of nearly 400 fabrics as the Arles and Rockwell beds and headboards. The Creswell style offers a contrasting welt option and the Barnard style is a simple, versatile design.
