Art of Hand-Painting…on Silk Bedding
A preview of Anthemion, expected in 2010
The art of textile painting has been in existence for thousands of years. Many ancient cultures used silk as a canvas for displaying magnificent works of art, as well as for practical use. Before the creation of paper, certain documents were once hand painted on silk. There are many different artistic techniques used on fabric that developed as civilizations developed. The use of dyes and waxes, brushing the paint on the fabric, and blocking printing are the most common methods of textile painting.
We named our new hand-painted silk program (currently in development) Anthemion. Anthemion is a Greek motif also referred to as a palmette.
The palmette depicts the fan shaped leaves of a palm tree which were most commonly seen in ancient Greek architecture and pottery. Our designer chose to explore working with this motif, along side our extremely talented in house artists, to produce incredible works of art on luxury bedding, home accent pillows, and curtain panels. We believe the result of this exploration has generated a truly unique and luxurious product line.
We expect to offer the following products in Anthemion: hand-painted silk luxury bedding, decorative accent pillows, and curtain panels. The bedding collection consists of a duvet, bed skirt, Euro and standard shams, bolster, and home accent pillows. Up to seven colors of silk may eventually be available with complimentary hand-painted colors. All or most products will be available in our signature Serico silk ivory, ocean, gold, brown and taupe. Contrasting paint colors include gold, brown, black and shiraz. We’ll keep you posted as new information becomes available. (As this is a collection still in development, details may change.)
